The famed Champagne house Pommery came to California to make sparkling wine in the Carneros AVA in 2015. With the 2021 vintage, the producer, whose historic sparkling roots date to the 1850s, released its second still American wine, the Louis Pommery Carneros Single Vineyard Chardonnay. A true departure from the typical rich, buttery style, the Pommery Carneros Chardonnay is vinified in a way that channels Chablis with 97% of the blend from free-run juice and 3% aged in neutral French oak for three months. Beautiful golden yellow, the Chardonnay is marked by freshness and energy, with a notably cool-climate temperament. Notes of candied citrus, dried lemon, well structured, with slightly spicy aromas, hints of vanilla and almond. It's a perfect marriage of California's intense richness and ripe fruit, balance by Chablis stony minerality and long finish. Amazing for under $25 a bottle!
"Distinctive, with flavors of poached pear, candied ginger, marmalade and a note of fresh tarragon. Packs an elegant, sleek and juicy frame, with a mineral note lingering on the finish. Drink now. 1,500 cases." The Wine Spectator, 92 Points
